Recognition Prize: Empresa AGA S.A. de C.V., Mexico – Application of energy efficiency technologies with the complete involvement of staff.
The company started implementing a comprehensive package of energy efficiency measures with the total involvement of the staff in 2001 and has continued to develop these measures. After a methodical examination of the status of existing energy efficiency potential, comprehensive efficiency measures were introduced, and included the company’s lighting systems and the machine park. A wide range of improvements in the company organization further reduced energy consumption. The employees were kept informed as to the implementation of the operational energy efficiency measures and were encouraged to support these measures. This resulted in energy savings of 33 percent or 2,173,700 kWh each year.
Assessment
This project provides a good example of how high energy and cost savings potential can be exploited fairly easily and with relatively low investment. To achieve this, clear energy efficiency responsibility structures were created and a continual, monitored process to increase operational energy efficiency initiated. The involvement of staff from a variety of divisions and the learning and awareness process initiated made an essential contribution to the success achieved.

- Optimization of the building to better exploit natural daylight.
- Integration of up-to-date control technology.
- Exchanging high-energy machinery with new, low-energy
equipment.
