Award for companies from industry and production

The "Energy Efficiency Award 2010" was being granted by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) - the German Energy Agency - in cooperation with Deutsche Messe under the scope of the EnergieEffizienz Initiative.

The international competition highlights the importance of energy efficiency in industry and production for the reduction of costs and the mitigation of climate change, and demonstrates the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of energy efficiency projects. The initiators of the award hope that by recognising pioneers in the field of energy efficiency they will encourage and motivate more companies to introduce energy efficiency projects.

Innovative companies from trade and industry were able to submit a successful project to increase energy efficiency for inclusion in the competition from 16 November 2009 to 07 February 2010.

German Federal Minister of Economics Rainer Brüderle handed over one of the first prizes to Viessmann Werke GmbH & Co KG for the energy optimisation of an existing production plant. SMA Solar Technology AG was delighted also to receive first prize for a new build CO2-neutral inverter plant. The second prize was won by Saigon TanTec Limited for an energy-efficient new build leather factory in Vietnam. The Brazilian aluminium producer Alunorte won a recognition prize for reducing its energy requirements in aluminium production.
