"Energy Efficiency Award 2008" (English)

Award for companies from industry and production

The Energy Efficiency Award was being granted in 2008 by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) - the German Energy Agency - in cooperation with KfW Förderbank and Deutsche Messe under the scope of the Initiative EnergieEffizienz.

The international competition highlights the importance of energy efficiency in industry and production for the reduction of costs and the mitigation of climate change, and demonstrates the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of energy efficiency projects. The initiators of the award hope that by recognising pioneers in the field of energy efficiency they will encourage and motivate more companies to introduce energy efficiency projects.

Innovative companies from trade and industry were able to submit a successful project to increase energy efficiency for inclusion in the competition from 15 October 2007 to 31 January 2008.

The prizes were presented by Jochen Homann, Administrative Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), during the opening event of the WORLD ENERGY DIALOGUE on 22 April 2008, with 15,000 euros awarded to the winner. The two runners up received 7,500 euros.

The jury’s decision was based on the following five criteria: Increase in energy efficiency, contribution to the mitigation of climate change, profitability, transferability and degree of innovation. In the decision process the jurors also recognized the extent to which the project could be considered a show-case project and could be explained and transferred to other companies, whether the approach taken was exemplary, and the dedication of the management to the implementation of the energy efficiency measures.
